When it comes to water supply systems, it is essential to guarantee the safety and quality of the infrastructure. Lowflo follows strict practices to ensure that the pipework used in the system meets the highest standards. Two key processes for this are pressure testing and chlorination, both of which are vital for ensuring the pipes’ durability and the water’s safety.
Pressure Test
The pressure tests for water pipes become quite essential for the reason of ascertaining the installations of the pipes and fittings for standing the water pressure in operation without failure, leakage, or deformation. It is necessary to do this for safety and efficiency in the distribution system.
It begins with preparing the system, where all the connections and components should be assembled and checked. Then, the pipework is filled with water, and the system is tested. According to the Uisce Eireann standards, pressures can go up to 15 bar. The pressure created by the water is maintained for a specific time that varies based on the pipe’s specification.
After the test, the pressure is gradually released, and the water is drained from the pipe. The system can then be released for the next stages of installation or for normal use.
This procedure is important for the safety and service life of systems, since it allows problems to be identified before the system is put into service.
Chlorination of water pipes is a very crucial process that ensures that the drinking water is safe and free from harmful microorganisms. It involves flushing the pipes with a chlorine solution that kills bacteria or pathogens present in the water. It is done after the installation of the pipes, but before the connection to the main water supply or before the water begins to flow through the system.
The chlorine solution is left in the pipes for a certain period, allowing the disinfectant to work effectively. To ensure that the pipes have been completely disinfected, samples are taken and analysed in external laboratories, where they conduct quality tests to ensure the collected sample meets the highest quality standards. After the pipes being successful disinfected the pipes can be connected to the water supply for regular use
